FREIGHT AND RAIL UNIT



Develop and coordinate state policy on freight and rail transportation issues.

Administer KDOT's rail and freight service programs.

Prepare and update the State Rail Plan and administer the state funded Rail Services Improvement Program that provides loans and grants to railroads, shippers and local units of government for track rehabilitation.

Coordinate state freight and rail activities with the Office of the Governor and other state agencies.

Represent KDOT in AASHTO and MAFC freight and rail activities.

Provide technical assistance for the development of the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan.

Provide motor-carrier statutory and legislation expertise pertaining to oversize and overweight motor carriers issues; and serve as liaison between KDOT and the Kansas Central Permits as well as other partners such as the KMCA, KHP, KCC and KDOR.

Provide freight rail statutory and legislation expertise pertaining to freight rail issues; and

Prepare and update the State Multimodal Freight Plan.
