-- Electric power line work on I-235 to close lanes
-- Greenwich Ramp to WB K-96 to be closed March 10 -- 14
-- Detour on I-235 planned for two weekends in April
Power Lines to be Removed from I-235
Removal of overhead power lines spanning I-235 between Maple and Central is planned for Thursday and Friday, March 6 &7. Contractors for Westar will close the right lanes of both NB and SB I-235 in the area. When the lines are actually being lowered to the ground, all traffic will be (briefly) halted on I-235. Work is expected from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday plus Saturday, if needed.
Greenwich Ramp to WB K-96 to Close
The City of Wichita project adding two ramps to the K-96 & Greenwich interchange began March 3. The work includes an exit ramp for WB K-96 to Greenwich and an entrance ramp from Greenwich to EB K-96.
Installation of a drainage pipe under the existing entrance ramp to westbound K-96 will require a complete closure of the ramp from Monday, March 10 through Friday, March 14. Use of the nearby 21st St. entrance ramp is suggested as a reasonable alternative.
13th St. Ramps at I-235
This two-year project began in December 2012 and will be completed in late 2014. It includes a ramp from EB 13th St. west of the Big Ditch onto SB I-235 and a ramp from NB I-235 to WB 13th St. A realignment of the 13th St. and Windmill Road area is included. On the east side of I-235, it includes a realignment of Hoover Rd. Bridge piers are currently being constructed across the Big Ditch.
- Concrete barrier has been placed on southbound and northbound I-235 from Central Ave to Zoo Blvd. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained for each direction but at reduced speeds (50 mph).
- A detour is planned for two weekends in April for placement of bridge beams over I-235. Traffic from I-235 will be routed onto Central, West St. and Zoo Blvd.
