WICHITA TRAFFIC ALERT

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

Highlights in this alert:

New information in BOLD. NB=Northbound, SB=Southbound, etc.

1) Cold weather has delayed concrete repairs to the I-235 at 25th St. North bridge. When repairs resume, expect the left lane NB I-235 to be CLOSED between 9 am and 3 pm. The bridge was struck by trailered equipment on January 10.

2) Resuming at 9 am on Thursday, January 19: The EB U.S. 54 entrance ramp from Seneca/ Sycamore plus the acceleration lane will be CLOSED until 2 pm for repairs to a storm water drain.

3) A lighting project on US 54/400 (E. Kellogg) at Washington Street began on Nov. 28. Eight new 100' poles will be installed -- six of them in the Kellogg median. Some brief lane closures will be necessary when new poles are installed -- especially those in the median. The light structures will be installed on Saturday, January 21 and the left lane in each direction will be closed.

4) A new lighting project at the I-235/K-96/Meridian Interchange will begin in late January. Little impact on traffic is expected.

5) A website using up-to-the-minute information will help travelers in Wichita efficiently navigate area highways. WICHway.org will share travel speeds and camera views on select routes, messages posted on roadside signs and other helpful information for drivers. The Camera Tours link in the banner is a great feature that shows all cameras on a selected route.

6) The US 54/400 (W. Kellogg) bridge over Seneca was hit by a truck on November 18 and emergency repairs have been made. All lanes are open.

7) Concrete patching on entire length of I-235 started Sept. 18 but is now suspended for the winter. Work will resume in the spring.
