ZERO TOLERANCE FOR YOUTH*
The Kansas Legislature passed a law
known as Zero Tolerance which went into effect January 1,
1997. If you are under 21 years of age, this law makes it
illegal to operate or attempt to operate a motor vehicle in
Kansas with a breath or blood alcohol content (BAC) of .02
or above.
First Offense for a BAC of .02
to .07:
Your driving privileges will be suspended for 30 days and
restricted for 330 days.
Second / Subsequent Offense for
a BAC of .02 to .07:
Your driving privileges will be suspended for one year.
If BAC is .08 or above:
Your driving privileges will be suspended for one year. You
will also be charged with DUI (driving under the influence).

MINOR IN
POSSESSION *
A person must be 21 years of age to purchase, possess or consume
cereal malt beverages or alcoholic liquor. A minor in possession
charge carries fines of $200 to $500 and suspension of your
driving privileges.
First Offense:
Your driving privileges will be suspended for 30 days. If
you do not have a driver's license, you may not apply for
one for a 30-day period following conviction.
Second Offense:
Your driving privileges will be suspended for 90 days.
Third / Subsequent Offense:
Your driving privileges will be suspended for one year.
