Start Smart
The Start Smart campaign targets beginning drivers under 21 years of age and their parents. In conjunction with driver education instructors across the state, the message is to encourage responsible decision-making when it comes to drinking and driving.
Classroom presentations can be arranged to help educate young drivers about
- the responsibility of holding a Kansas driver’s license
- the dangers of drinking and driving or riding with someone who has been drinking, and
- the parents’ role in promoting safe driving practices.
The Start Smart brochure
provides permit and license information for new drivers and
also includes a driving experience log to record the required
50 hours of supervised driving. Keychains and brochures are available free of
charge to driver education instructors.
