LIGHTING

QUESTION 1 When are street lights installed?
Answer: On the Interstate system, KDOT reviews the amount of traffic on the interstate and the amount of traffic on the ramps to determine if lighting should be installed. On other K or US routes, when lighting is requested, KDOT reviews the night-time accident history and if it is above average, then street lighting is considered. KDOT does allow local governing bodies to install lighting on KDOT's right-of-way by obtaining a permit from the local office. KDOT does not have jurisdiction over local and county roads.
