1980s

1982
February - The Kansas Good Roads Association was organized to raise public awareness of the benefits of "sound highways" and to lobby the legislature.

1983
The Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry members named the highway system as the "top priority for state government."

1986
The I-435 loop in Kansas and Missouri was completed. A ribbon cutting on the Missouri River Bridge opened the final link on the 83-mile route.

1987
Kansas dignitaries gathered for a ceremony to mark raising the speed limit to 65 mph on 680 miles of rural Interstates across state.

1989
The eight-year Comprehensive Highway Program (CHP) was authorized by Legislature.
