Kansas celebrates 50 years of Interstates

First Section of Interstate Opens

 
At the November 14 dedication for the US-40 construction west of Topeka, which represents the first paving in the United States under the new Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 were, left to right; Ivan Wassberg of Manhattan, commissioner of the first highway division; George Koss, president of Koss Construction Co., the contracting firm; W.S. Mc Daniel, assistant state highway engineer, Topeka; John Beuerlein, Kansas representative of Koss Construction Co.
