June 29, 2006, will mark the 50th anniversary of the day federal legislation was signed to begin one of the biggest engineering projects ever undertaken: the U.S. Interstate Highway System. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Interstate System, national highway representatives and dignitaries will reenact, in reverse, the 1919 Military Transcontinental Motor Convoy and travel from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. Join us in celebration as part of the convoy makes a special trip through Kansas to honor Ike, father of the Interstate System, at the Eisenhower Center in Abilene on June 21 and 22, 2006. Enter the once in a lifetime U.S. Interstate Highway System 50th Anniversary Car Show on Wednesday, June 21, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Eisenhower Center. Entry is free, but is limited to 50 entrants - all of whom will receive a commemorative dash plaque. All entry forms must be received no later than Friday, June 9.
