OPEN HOUSE SET FOR I-70/K-7 PROJECT

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will host a public information open house on July 18, 2000 to present its concept for improving K-7, I-70, and the I-70/K-7 interchange in Bonner Springs. The open house will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Robert E. Clark Middle School, 420 N. Bluegrass in Bonner Springs.

KDOT is hosting the open house so area residents and businesspersons can learn about the proposed changes, talk with the design team about the changes, and offer their comments. It will be an open-house format and no formal presentation will be given. Guests can visit whenever it is convenient during the scheduled times. Engineers from KDOT and the consulting firm of HNTB Corporation will staff large displays depicting the proposed improvements. HNTB Corporation is working with KDOT to plan the improvements. Other KDOT staff will be on hand to answer questions concerning the environment and concept and the Ultimate (Phase Two) concept will play continuously. Take-home information and other informative displays will also be available. Guests are invited to make comments either in writing or by speaking to a court reporter.

KDOT selected the concept to enhance the safety and efficiency of K-7, I-70, and the interchange after studying various possibilities over the past year and a half. The concept would form the basis for designing the proposed improvements so exact placement of features or location of right-of-way lines has not yet been determined. While the overall concept is unlikely to change, minor adjustments could be made during the design phase and is one reason KDOT is seeking additional input for consideration. KDOT officials have met with local elected and government officials, area businesspersons, and others interested in the project and we have received many comments and letters. When possible, KDOT has accommodated suggestions received from those interested in the project.
