Of the 7 people killed in work zone accidents, all were motorists. The top contributing circumstances were driver-related in 87 percent of all the accidents with the main cause being inattention. Other causes included failure to yield, following too closely and driving too fast for conditions. There were no adverse weather conditions in 88 percent of all the accidents at the time when the accidents took place. The accidents happened during daylight hours in 77 percent of the accidents.
