US-59 Decision to Be Announced
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will announce
the decision for its preferred alternative for improving US-59
between Ottawa and Lawrence at a Public Information Open House on
November 9. The Open House will be held at Baldwin High School in
Baldwin City from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Guests can visit anytime
during those hours. There will not be a formal presentation.
The Open House is being held to inform the public about the
preferred alternative and to answer questions, listen to
concerns, and receive written comments from those attending. KDOT
engineers and consulting engineers who helped with the study will
be available to talk with guests and discuss individual concerns
and ideas. A short video that describes the improvement study and
the preferred alternative will play continuously. There will be
large preliminary maps on display, educational displays to view,
information booklets to take home, and comment forms on which to
make written comments. A court reporter will be available to take
verbal comments for later review by KDOT.
Baldwin High School is located at 400 Eisenhower St. in
Baldwin City. There is ample parking near the main entrance on
the east side of the building. Persons traveling from either
direction to Baldwin City on US-56 should take Eisenhower Street
north to the high school. Those coming from north of Baldwin City
should follow E. 1700 Road south into Baldwin City, turn east on
Quayle Street, then turn north onto Eisenhower Street.

Involvement Liaison, at 785-296-6580.
