Michael Copeland, Olathe Mayor:

"Olathe's history is tied to the railroads. We have a love/hate relationship with our railroads here in Olathe. The railroads have grown and prospered and so has the city, but it's come to the point now in our history where the railroads have 80 trains a day that are 1 1/2 miles long. Trains stop traffic in downtown Olathe for 2 hours a day every single day. The railroad tracks have caused these intersections to be very dangerous to the traveling public and it is cooperation of the city of Olathe and the Department of Transportation, both of us coming to the table with millions of dollars, that we've been able to improve the safety of the traveling public."
