Three-month Closure of N.W. 46th St. at U.S. 75 Intersection Begins August
1
The scheduled three-month closure of N.W. 46th St. at the U.S. 75/46th St.
intersection will begin Thursday, Aug. 1, weather permitting. The closure is
necessary to construct a roundabout at the current U.S. 75/46th St. intersection
and new ramps to and from U.S. 75 at 46th St. Through U.S. 75 traffic will be
reduced to one lane in each direction with no access to 46th St. There will
be no signed detour – motorists can choose which alternate route best
fits their needs.
Once the U.S. 75/46th St. intersection is reopened this fall, 46th St. traffic
will have full access to U.S. 75 via the roundabout. U.S. 75 traffic will be
routed onto the new ramps and roundabout while construction of the new U.S.
75 bridge begins. The entire project is expected to take about 15 months.
The speed limit on U.S. 75 in the construction area will be reduced. Motorists
should be aware that delays on U.S. 75 are possible, especially during rush
hours, and are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible.
Once finished, the project will replace the existing signalized intersection
with an interchange that will allow free flow of through traffic on both U.S.
75 and N.W. 46th Street as well as free flowing movements from one road to the
other.
KDOT understands that this reconstruction project will be an inconvenience
and appreciates the patience of all motorists, home owners and business owners.
