| This unit is responsible for performing sophisticated analyses and
developing computer traffic models required in the statewide
and metro planning process.
Traffic
and socioeconomic information is analyzed and modeled
to predict travel patterns and demand. These estimates
are used for geometric design, air and noise quality
considerations, energy saving measures and system alternatives
analysis. This unit also performs many specialized studies
and analyses such as research on rail or other freight
movements in Kansas for use in multi-modal and intermodal
planning activities. The unit also supports the development
of the statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan required
by the federal Transportation
Equity Act for the 21st Century. The
Plan is intermodal in scope and examines the interaction
of all transportation modes. Extensive public involvement
is utilized in the development of the Plan, requiring
substantive coordination with local, state and federal
agencies, Indian Nations, business and industry, and
the general public.
