I-35 & I-435 Interchange Bridge Project

Traffic Pattern Change: Northbound and southbound I-35 at I-435 will be reduced to TWO THROUGH LANES for 30 days beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 22 and will reopen to all traffic on Tuesday, April 21. Northbound I-35 left lane will be closed north of 119th Street and southbound I-35 right lane will become an exit-only lane to the westbound I-435 entrance ramp. K-10 & Renner Boulevard Interchange Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY 24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Southbound Renner Boulevard to eastbound K-10 ramp RIGHT TURN LANE will be CLOSED beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26 until full weekend closure begins at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26 (See alert below). Right turns still permitted from though lane. This portion of project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, March 27. (NEW 3-26-15)

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 FULL WEEKEND RAMP CLOSURES: Renner Boulevard to eastbound K-10 and eastbound K-10 to Renner Boulevard ramps will be CLOSED for water line construction work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27 and will reopen to all traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, weather permitting. Marked detours will be provided. Northbound Renner Boulevard traffic will detour via 95th Street ramps at I-435 and southbound Renner Boulevard traffic will detour via College Boulevard to Lackman Road. Eastbound K-10 traffic will detour via northbound I-435 to 95th Street to access Renner Boulevard; or use an alternate suggested detour route: eastbound I-435 to Lackman Road exit to access Renner Boulevard. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, March 30. (NEW 3-25-15)

I-35

EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS! WEEKDAY MOVING LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound I-35 LEFT TWO LANES from Lamar Avenue to 95th Street will have varying lane closures via a mobile operation for spray patch pothole repair work on Friday, March 27 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. No marked detours provided. I-35 Pavement Reconstruction Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Northbound I-35 RIGHT LANE from just north of the U.S. 56 bridge to just past Santa Fe/135th Street will be CLOSED for shoo-fly work on Tuesday-Friday, March 24-27 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, March 27. (REV. 3-24-15)

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Southbound I-35 LEFT TURN LANE from on ramp just south of railroad bridge to 151st Street/K-7/U.S. 169 will be CLOSED for shoo-fly work on Wednesday-Friday, March 25-27 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, March 27. (NEW 3-24-15)

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY 24/7 SHOULDER CLOSURE: Northbound I-35 right shoulder at Santa Fe/135th Street and southbound I-35 right shoulder at 151st Street will be CLOSED, 24/7 round the clock, for shoulder work on Monday-Friday, March 23-30. I-435 Sign Replacement Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound I-435 from 95th Street to the Kansas River will have varying lane closures for sign replacement work overnight beginning at 7:00 p.m. and reopening at 5:00 a.m. the following morning on Monday-Friday, March 23-30. K-192 Easton Bridge Repair Project (Carryover from 2014)

EXPECT MINOR DELAYS! 24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Eastbound and westbound K-192 over the Stranger Creek bridge (in Easton) will be reduced to one lane for both directions for bridge repair work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning on Wednesday, March 25. Traffic will be directed across the bridge by traffic signals at either end of the bridge. Project work is scheduled to be completed on in mid-April 2015. (NEW 3-24-15)

I-70 Multi-Bridge Repair Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: The following overnight lane closures will take place on eastbound and westbound I-70  from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive on Thursday-Sunday, March 26-29 for pavement marking work and temporary concrete barrier placement. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Sunday, March 29. (REV. 3-25-15) 

  • CLOSES at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26 – REOPENS at 5:00 a.m. Friday, March 27 
    Eastbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to ONE LANE overnight

  • CLOSES at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 27 – REOPENS at 5:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28
    Eastbound and westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to ONE LANE overnight

Long term project closures listed below typically take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Project completion dates typically range from 31 days up to a year. All closures and scheduled work are weather permitting and subject to change.

 

JOHNSON COUNTY

Westbound I-435 from U.S. 69 to I-35

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Westbound I-435 traffic from U.S. 69 to just west of I-35 will be shifted to the south with three through and one auxiliary lane for reconstruction work on the westbound I-435 lanes, 24/7 round the clock, beginning on Thursday, September 4 through late 2014, weather permitting. Crews will begin setting traffic control at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 and the traffic shift will be in place before morning rush hour on Thursday, September 4, weather permitting. 

Westbound I-435 traffic (from U.S. 69 to just west of I-35) will travel through the work zone via three through lanes and one auxiliary lane as follows: 

1) Far left lane traffic will travel through the work zone only directed via concrete barrier on either side of the driving lane. Traffic will travel on an 11-foot wide driving lane with an approximate 2-foot left shoulder and 8-foot right shoulder (lane is located in former eastbound I-435 lane/median area).
2) Center lane traffic will travel through the work zone as normal
3) Right lane traffic will travel through the work zone as normal
4) Far right auxiliary lane will be used for traffic wishing to access the U.S. 69, Quivira Road and I-35 interchanges  

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the traffic shift. There will be an 11-foot lane width restriction and a 55 mph posted speed limit through the project work zone throughout the project duration. Note: Eastbound I-435 traffic through this area has already been shifted to the south slightly to accommodate the westbound I-435 traffic shift. All ramp access will remain open at the U.S. 69, Quivira Road and I-35 interchanges. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2015. (REV. 1-9-15)

College Boulevard

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Eastbound and westbound College Boulevard traffic from Ridgeview Road to Renner Boulevard will experience a traffic shift during the afternoon on Friday, October 31. Construction crews will shift traffic to the south side of College Boulevard in order to continue to work on the north side of College Boulevard.  The westbound lanes will move south. The eastbound lane will remain in the current location  and traffic will be ‘head to head’ (side by side) one lane each direction for this temporary traffic pattern.  Traffic entering College Boulevard from Ambassador and Penrose will be able to make both left and right hand turns at this time. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2015. (REV. 12-31-14)


I-35 from 151st Street to Santa Fe/135th Street Pavement Reconstruction Project
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in December 2015

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 RAMP CLOSURES:  Northbound and southbound I-35 from just north of 151st Street to just north of Santa Fe Street/135th Street will have varying lane and ramp closures for reconstruction work beginning on Monday, March 16. Construction will be completed in two phases. Each phase will take approximately four months to complete, weather permitting. During the weeks of March 16-30, crews will begin project work by setting traffic control followed by construction of median crossovers located at either end of the project. Traffic impacts include lane reductions on I-35 and the closure of the Santa Fe Street/135th Street to southbound I-35 entrance ramp throughout the project duration. Ramp closures and lane reductions are tentatively scheduled to begin sometime around Monday, March 30, weather permitting. Phase One. All I-35 traffic will be carried on the existing northbound lanes separated by concrete barrier while the southbound lanes are reconstructed. During this phase, the southbound I-35 to Old U.S. 56 exit ramp will be closed. Southbound I-35 to Old U.S. 56 ramp traffic will detour via the U.S. 169/K-7 exit then north on K-7 to Old U.S. 56. Approximate timeframe for completion work on this phase: April-July 2015, weather permitting. Phase Two. All I-35 traffic will be carried on the newly completed southbound lanes separated by concrete barrier while the northbound lanes are reconstructed. During this phase, the Old U.S. 56 to northbound I-35 entrance ramp and the northbound I-35 to Santa Fe Street/135th Street exit ramp will be closed. Approximate timeframe for completion work on this phase: August-December 2015, weather permitting. Santa Fe Street/135th Street to southbound I-35 ramp traffic will detour via Mur-Len Road south to 151st Street west to I-35 or via Ridgeview Road north to 119th Street east to I-35. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late December 2015. (NEW 3-18-15)

U.S. 69 & 159th Street Interchange Project

24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Eastbound 159th left lane from Lowell Avenue to U.S. 69 will be CLOSED for bridge work beginning on Wednesday, March 4, 24/7 round the clock.  Project work is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2015. (NEW 3-4-15)

24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Westbound 159th left lane from Foster Street to U.S. 69 will be CLOSED for bridge work beginning on Friday, February 13, 24/7 round the clock.  Project work is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2015. (NEW 2-16-15)

WEEKDAY LANE/SHOULDER CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from 151st Street to 169th Street may have periodic lane and shoulder closures for ramp construction work beginning in September 2014 through late October 2015. KDOT partnered on a city-led project with the City of Overland Park for the U.S. 69 & 159th Street interchange expansion project. This expansion project includes the addition of interchange ramps to the existing intersection at U.S. 69 and 159th Street in Overland Park (Johnson County). The project work zone on northbound and southbound U.S. 69 will extend from 151st Street south to 169th Street throughout the duration of the project. Construction work, including periodic lane and shoulder closures, will primarily occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late October 2015. (NEW 12-15-14)

Marked detours will be provided. At 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28eastbound and westbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to two 11-foot lanes with no shoulders, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration.The northbound and southbound I-635 to eastbound I-70 ramp closures will be in place, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. 24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from I-635 (in Missouri) to Kindleberger Road in Kansas will be reduced to one lane in each direction, 24/7, beginning on Friday, October 24 for bridge replacement work. Both northbound and southbound U.S. 69 traffic will travel on the existing northbound U.S. 69 bridge (Platte Purchase Bridge). A crossover will be used to shift southbound U.S. 69 traffic to the existing Platte Purchase Bridge. The traffic switch is scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2014 and traffic will remain in this configuration until Thursday, December 1, 2016.
