Only a semi-trailer/trailer combination (towed units - maximum of 28 1/2 feet) may be pulled in tandem on Kansas highways unless the company is participating in the Special Vehicle Combination Program K.A.R. 36-1-28 through K.A.R. 36-1-33 or is transporting goods or equipment on the Kansas Turnpike Authority (KTA) under a previously obtained KTA access permit. A permit is also required to participate in the Special Vehicle Combination program.

Note: Trailers being pulled in tandem are limited to truck-tractor, semi-trailer and trailer combinations.
