 Freight and Rail Unit:

•Develop and coordinate state policy on freight and rail transportation issues;
•Administer KDOT’s rail and freight service programs;
•Prepare the State Rail Plan and administer the state funded Rail Services Improvement Program that provides loans and grants to short-line railroads for track rehabilitation or acquisition;
• Coordinate state freight and rail activities with the Office of the Governor and other state agencies;
•Represent KDOT in AASHTO freight and rail activities;
• Provide technical assistance for the development of the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan; and
•Provide motor-carrier statutory and legislation expertise pertaining to oversize and overweight motor carriers issues; and serve as liaison between KDOT and the Kansas Trucking Connection as well as other partners such as the KMCA, KHP, KCC and KDOR.
