JOHNSON COUNTY

I-35 & I-435 Interchange Bridge Project

RAMP REOPENING DELAYED! EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 45-DAY RAMP CLOSURE: Northbound I-35 to westbound I-435 loop ramp was CLOSED to all traffic for reconstruction work on the ramp, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, October 6 and was scheduled to REOPEN to all traffic on Wednesday, November 19, weather permitting. As originally scheduled, the ramp WILL NOT REOPEN tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19 as a result of pavement delays due to the recent round of cold winter weather. New pavement has not been poured on the ramp lane yet, thus the ramp cannot be reopened to traffic until this new pavement work is completed. Project work is scheduled to be completed by Saturday, November 22. (REV. 11-20-14) 

Westbound I-435 from U.S. 69 to Quivira Road Area

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Westbound I-435 right lane at U.S. 69 will be CLOSED for temporary barrier relocation and striping work on Monday-Tuesday, November 24-25 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, November 25(NEW 11-21-14) 

TRAFFIC SHIFT! Quivira Road to westbound I-435 ramp will be shifted to the left onto the new pavement so that the existing ramp pavement can be replaced(NEW 11-21-14) 

EXPECT DELAYS! UPCOMING WEEKDAY RAMP CLOSURE: Quivira Road to westbound I-435 ramp will be CLOSED for temporary striping and asphalt work on Tuesday, November 25 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Southbound Quivira Road traffic will detour to eastbound I-435 to Antioch Road and then back on westbound I-435; Northbound Quivira Road traffic will detour via 103rd Street to southbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, November 25. (REV. 11-20-14)

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 45-DAY RAMP CLOSURE: Westbound I-435 to Quivira Road exit ramp will be CLOSED to all traffic for ramp reconstruction work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13 and will reopen to all traffic on Tuesday, November 25, weather permitting. Advance message boards will alert traffic to the ramp closure. A marked detour will be provided. Westbound I-435 traffic will detour by taking the exit before the U.S. 69 interchange (just after Antioch Road interchange) and follow the collector-distributor road that runs parallel to westbound I-435 (on the north side) to exit at Quivira Road. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, November 25. (REV. 11-21-14)

K-10 & I-435 Interchange Bridge Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Westbound K-10 left lane from Renner Road to Ridgeview Avenue will be CLOSED for grading work on Monday-Tuesday, November 24-25 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, November 25(NEW 11-21-14) 

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Southbound Renner Road left lane at K-10 will be CLOSED for median saw work on Monday, November 24 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, November 24(NEW 11-21-14) 

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Northbound and southbound I-435 right lanes at K-10 will be CLOSED for bridge work on Monday, November 24 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, November 24(NEW 11-21-14) 

K-10 & Ridgeview Road Interchange Bridge Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Eastbound K-10 left lane at Ridgeview Road will be CLOSED for the moving of equipment on Monday, November 24 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, November 24(NEW 11-21-14) 

College Boulevard

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Eastbound and westbound College Boulevard traffic from Ridgeview Road to Renner Boulevard will experience a traffic shift during the afternoon on Friday, October 31. Construction crews will shift traffic to the south side of College Boulevard in order to continue to work on the north side of College Boulevard.  The westbound lanes will move south. The eastbound lane will remain in the current location  and traffic will be ‘head to head’ (side by side) one lane each direction for this temporary traffic pattern.  Traffic entering College Boulevard from Ambassador and Penrose will be able to make both left and right hand turns at this time. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early January 2015. (REV. 11-21-14)

I-35

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURE: Southbound I-35 TWO right lanes from past 27th Street to Cambridge Circle will be CLOSED for bridge work beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 21 and reopening to all traffic at NOON 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, November 22(NEW 11-20-14) 

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKEND DAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURE: Southbound I-35 right lane from past 27th Street to Cambridge Circle will be CLOSED for bridge work beginning at NOON 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22 and reopening to all traffic at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23. I-35 & 18th Street/U.S. 69 Interchange Ramp Overhead Sign Mast Replacement Project
Overall project work scheduled to be completed in late November 2014

Southbound I-35 to 18th Street/U.S. 69 exit ramp will be CLOSED beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24 and will reopen to all traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25. Northbound and southbound I-35 to 18th Street/U.S. 69 exit ramps will be CLOSED to all traffic overnight each day beginning on Monday, October 27 through late November 2014, weather permitting. The ramps will be closed daily beginning at 7:00 p.m. and reopening to all traffic at 5:00 a.m. the following morning, seven days a week. The ramp closures are needed so crews can remove the existing overhead mast signs (located on the ramps themselves) and replace with new structures. Advance message boards will alert traffic to the ramp closures. A marked detour provided. Northbound and southbound I-35 traffic will detour via northbound I-635 to eastbound I-70 back to southbound 18th Street/U.S. 69. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2014. (REV. 11-21-14) 

I-70 & K-7 Interchange Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE:  Northbound K-7 at Speaker Road will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for traffic signal work on Monday, November 24 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, November 24. (NEW 11-21-14)

EXPECT DELAYS! UPCOMING WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE:  Southbound K-7 at Speaker Road will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for traffic signal work on Tuesday, November 25 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, November 25. (NEW 11-21-14)

U.S. 69 over Missouri River Bridge Replacement Project (MoDOT/KDOT Project)  > > #us69moriverbridge
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in December 2016

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from I-635 (in Missouri) to Kindleberger Road in Kansas will be reduced to one lane in each direction, 24/7, beginning on Friday, October 24 for bridge replacement work. Both northbound and southbound U.S. 69 traffic will travel on the existing northbound U.S. 69 bridge (Platte Purchase Bridge). A crossover will be used to shift southbound U.S. 69 traffic to the existing Platte Purchase Bridge. The traffic switch is scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2014 and traffic will remain in this configuration until Thursday, December 1, 2016. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, December 1. (NEW 10-27-14)

 

 


  

LONG TERM

  

Long term project closures listed below typically take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Project completion dates typically range from 31 days up to a year. All closures and scheduled work are weather permitting and subject to change.

 

JOHNSON COUNTY

Westbound I-435 from U.S. 69 to I-35

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Westbound I-435 traffic from U.S. 69 to just west of I-35 will be shifted to the south with three through and one auxiliary lane for reconstruction work on the westbound I-435 lanes, 24/7 round the clock, beginning on Thursday, September 4 through late 2014, weather permitting. Crews will begin setting traffic control at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 and the traffic shift will be in place before morning rush hour on Thursday, September 4, weather permitting. 

Westbound I-435 traffic (from U.S. 69 to just west of I-35) will travel through the work zone via three through lanes and one auxiliary lane as follows: 

1) Far left lane traffic will travel through the work zone only directed via concrete barrier on either side of the driving lane. Traffic will travel on an 11-foot wide driving lane with an approximate 2-foot left shoulder and 8-foot right shoulder (lane is located in former eastbound I-435 lane/median area).
2) Center lane traffic will travel through the work zone as normal
3) Right lane traffic will travel through the work zone as normal
4) Far right auxiliary lane will be used for traffic wishing to access the U.S. 69, Quivira Road and I-35 interchanges  

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the traffic shift. There will be an 11-foot lane width restriction and a 55 mph posted speed limit through the project work zone throughout the project duration. Note: Eastbound I-435 traffic through this area has already been shifted to the south slightly to accommodate the westbound I-435 traffic shift. All ramp access will remain open at the U.S. 69, Quivira Road and I-35 interchanges. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late 2014. (NEW 8-25-14)

College Boulevard

I-35 Spoon Creek & Bull Creek Bridge Repair Project
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2014

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound I-35 over Spoon Creek and Bull Creek between Sunflower Road and Homestead Lane exits will be reduced to one lane each direction, 24/7 round the clock, for bridge repair work beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, through early September 2014. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2014. (REV. 11-12-14)

U.S. 69 Bridge Over I-435 Repair Project
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2014

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE & RAMP CLOSURES: Northbound U.S. 69 from .5-miles south of the bridge over I-435 to just north of the bridge will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for repair work beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. In addition, the eastbound I-435 to northbound U.S. 69 and northbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 loop ramps will be CLOSED beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. A marked detour will be provided. Eastbound I-435 to northbound U.S. 69 traffic will detour via southbound U.S. 69 to College Boulevard to access northbound U.S. 69. Northbound U.S. 69 to westbound I-435 traffic will detour via 103rd Street to southbound U.S. 69 to access westbound I-435. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2014. (REV. 11-10-14)

 

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY

 

U.S. 73 / K-7 Pavement Replacement Project
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in late December 2014

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 73/K-7 from 20th Street to the north junction of Leavenworth County Road 14/Santa Fe Trail will be CLOSED to all traffic beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7 for pavement replacement work. A marked detour will be provided via Leavenworth County Road 14. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late December 2014. (NEW 7-3-14)
