EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS! UPCOMING 24/7 10-DAY LANE CLOSURE: Eastbound K-10 LEFT LANE from Ridgeview Road to I-435 will be CLOSED for roadway work at Renner Boulevard, 24/7 round the clock, for approximately 10-days beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6 and will reopen to all traffic at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. K-10 & I-435 Interchange

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT RAMP CLOSURE: Eastbound K-10 to northbound I-435 ramp will be CLOSED for traffic switch work beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6 and will reopen to all traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7. Marked detour will be provided. Traffic will detour via eastbound I-435 to Lackman Road then right on northbound Lackman Road to access westbound/northbound I-435 ramp. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday, July 7. (NEW 6-30-15)


I-35

EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Northbound and southbound I-35 LEFT LANES from 75th Street to the Kansas/Missouri State Line will be CLOSED one direction at a time via a mobile operation for sweeping of the barrier wall on Thursday, July 2 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, July 2. (NEW 7-1-15) 

I-35 Resurfacing Project from Miami County Line to Homestead Lane

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY & OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound I-35 from Johnson/Miami County line to Homestead Lane will have varying lane closures both overnight and during daytime hours for resurfacing work beginning on Monday, May 18. Short-term interchange ramp closures will also take place throughout the project duration. Project work is scheduled to be completed in mid-July 2015. (REV. 6-29-15)

 

 

 

LEAVENWORTH COUNTY

 

K-7 from Pine Street to Limit Street

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Southbound K-7 from Pine Street to Limit Street (Leavenworth) will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for City of Leavenworth ADA sidewalk project work beginning on Monday, June 29 daily, Monday-Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Expect some occasional Saturday work as needed. Work will first take place on the southbound side of K-7 and then will move to the northbound side of K-7. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early September 2015. (NEW 6-29-15)

U.S. 73/K-7 Reconstruction Project Update (From 20th Street to 4th Street)

NEXT PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION SET TO BEGIN! EXPECT DELAYS! UPCOMING 24/7 LANE CLOSURES: U.S. 73/K-7 from 12th Street to 16th Street will be reduced to one lane each direction (in Leavenworth), 24/7 round the clock, as Phase Four pavement reconstruction work begins on Monday morning, July 6, weather permitting. 

> Here’s what this means for drivers:  U.S. 73/K-7 will now be reduced to one lane each direction from 10th Street to 16th Street for pavement reconstruction work. Phase Three work (from 10th Street to 12th Street) began on June 10 and is scheduled to be completed in mid- to late July 2015, weather permitting.

Phased project work will move west in the north side lanes of U.S. 73/K-7 to the 20th Street interchange and then work will switch to the south side lanes of U.S. 73/K-7 as crews head back east to 7th Street. U.S. 73/K-7 traffic will be placed side by side and reduced to one lane each direction, 24/7 round the clock, through each construction phase throughout the project duration. U.S. 73/K-7 Reconstruction Project Update (North of Leavenworth City Limits)

TRAFFIC SHIFT! PHASE TWO WORK STARTING: Southbound U.S. 73/K-7 at Leavenworth County Road 18 will be CLOSED to all traffic beginning on Monday, June 29 at NOON 12:00 p.m. During this phase, U.S. 73/K-7 pavement will be replaced from the intersection of Leavenworth County Road 14 to approximately 140 feet south of the intersection.  

A marked detour will be provided. Southbound U.S. 73/K-7 traffic will be detoured via Lowemont Road and Amelia Earhart Drive. Remaining northbound and southbound U.S. 73/K-7 traffic will continue to follow the already established detour on Leavenworth County Road 14/Santa Fe Trail detour route south of Millwood Road intersection.

> > Remaining work to be completed on the project includes: replacement of the temporary rock shoulders with concrete pavement shoulders, and pavement replacement tie-in work at one intersection and an approximately 1/4-mile section of highway located at the north end of the project. Once this work is done, the detour route will be deactivated, U.S. 73/K-7 traffic will be shifted back to the existing roadway and overlay work will then begin on Leavenworth County Road 14/Santa Fe Trail.  Project work is scheduled to be completed in mid-summer 2015. I-70 Multi-Bridge Repair Project

EXPECT DELAYS! WEEKDAY LANE CLOSURE: Westbound I-70 RIGHT LANE on collector-distributor road past 18th Street to I-635 will be CLOSED for bridge deck pour on Thursday, July 2 between 4:00 a.m. and NOON 12:00 p.m. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Thursday, July 2(NEW 6-29-15)

TRAFFIC SHIFT! EXPECT MINOR DELAYS! UPCOMING WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES & RAMP REOPENING:  Eastbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE for overnight traffic shift work beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7 and will reopen to all traffic at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, weather permitting. During the overnight lane closures, all eastbound I-70 traffic will be shifted from the left two lanes to the right two lanes so that repair work can now be completed on the left lanes over the bridge. When the traffic shift is completed, eastbound I-70 from just west of I-635 to just east of Kaw Drive will be REOPENED to TWO THROUGH LANES of traffic throughout the duration of the project. Also when the traffic shift is completed, the eastbound I-70 to Park Drive/Kaw Drive ramp will be REOPENED to all traffic (and will remain open) for the remainder of the project. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, July 8. (NEW 7-1-15)

EXPECT MINOR DELAYS! 24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Southbound K-5 RIGHT LANE from approximately I-635 to 18th Street was CLOSED to all traffic beginning at 2:30 p.m. TODAY, Thursday, June 18 and will remain closed, 24/7 round the clock, until emergency pavement repair work can be completed for a small sinkhole that has appeared. Repair work should be completed sometime in early July 2015, weather permitting. All adjacent ramps will remain open to traffic. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early July 2015. (NEW 6-18-15)

Northbound I-35 Dedicated Through Lane

24/7 DEDICATED THROUGH LANE ADDITION: Northbound I-35 FAR LEFT LANE from I-435 to 95th Street will be shifted to the existing southbound I-35 far left lane (and placed between concrete barriers) to create a “dedicated through lane” beginning early morning on Sunday, April 26, weather permitting, so crews can complete widening work on northbound I-35 and on the Pflumm Road bridge. This lane is similar to the westbound I-435 left through lane that was created for ongoing construction work. This northbound I-35 dedicated through lane is scheduled to be removed from use in mid-July 2015. (NEW 4-23-15)

Westbound I-435 from U.S. 69 to I-35

TRAFFIC SHIFT: Westbound I-435 traffic from U.S. 69 to just west of I-35 will be shifted to the south with three through and one auxiliary lane for reconstruction work on the westbound I-435 lanes, 24/7 round the clock, beginning on Thursday, September 4 through late 2014, weather permitting. Crews will begin setting traffic control at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3 and the traffic shift will be in place before morning rush hour on Thursday, September 4, weather permitting. 

Westbound I-435 traffic (from U.S. 69 to just west of I-35) will travel through the work zone via three through lanes and one auxiliary lane as follows: 

1) Far left lane traffic will travel through the work zone only directed via concrete barrier on either side of the driving lane. Traffic will travel on an 11-foot wide driving lane with an approximate 2-foot left shoulder and 8-foot right shoulder (lane is located in former eastbound I-435 lane/median area).
2) Center lane traffic will travel through the work zone as normal
3) Right lane traffic will travel through the work zone as normal
4) Far right auxiliary lane will be used for traffic wishing to access the U.S. 69, Quivira Road and I-35 interchanges  

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the traffic shift. There will be an 11-foot lane width restriction and a 55 mph posted speed limit through the project work zone throughout the project duration. Note: Eastbound I-435 traffic through this area has already been shifted to the south slightly to accommodate the westbound I-435 traffic shift. All ramp access will remain open at the U.S. 69, Quivira Road and I-35 interchanges. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2015. (REV. 1-9-15)

K-10 & Renner Boulevard Interchange Project

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 ROAD & RAMP CLOSURES: All lanes of Renner Boulevard at K-10, eastbound K-10 to Renner Boulevard exit ramp and Renner Boulevard to eastbound K-10 entrance ramp will be CLOSED to all traffic, 24/7 round the clock, beginning sometime EARLY AFTERNOON on Tuesday, April 14, weather permitting. Renner Boulevard is scheduled to reopen in mid-September 2015, and the eastbound K-10  Renner Boulevard ramps are scheduled to reopening August 2015. SPECIAL NOTE: Renner Boulevard and the adjacent K-10 ramps will FULLY CLOSE once College Boulevard is opened to four-lanes of traffic which is planned for some time during the day nesxt Tuesday, April 14. Renner Boulevard at K-10 cannot fully close until College Boulevard is fully opened to four lanes of traffic. Marked detours will be provided. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Late Summer 2015. (REV. 4-13-15) 

Pflumm Road Under I-35 Bridges

24/7 FULL ROADWAY CLOSURE: Northbound and southbound Pflumm Road under the I-35 bridges between Lenexa Drive (on the south) and Marshall Drive (on the north) will be FULLY CLOSED to all traffic, 24/7 round the clock, for I-35 roadway reconstruction and bridge widening beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27 through early October 2015,weather permitting. Due to scheduled utility work on 95th Street resulting in lane closures on the detour route for the Pflumm Road closure, the start date for the closure has been pushed to sometime next week. Advance notification will be sent out with a new confirmed closure start date. We apologize for any confusion this may cause. Project work is scheduled to be completed in October 2015. (REV. 5-22-15)


I-35 from 151st Street to Santa Fe/135th Street Pavement Reconstruction Project
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in December 2015

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 RAMP CLOSURES:  Northbound and southbound I-35 from just north of 151st Street to just north of Santa Fe Street/135th Street will have varying lane and ramp closures for reconstruction work beginning on Monday, March 16. Construction will be completed in two phases. Each phase will take approximately four months to complete, weather permitting. During the weeks of March 16-30, crews will begin project work by setting traffic control followed by construction of median crossovers located at either end of the project. Traffic impacts include lane reductions on I-35 and the closure of the Santa Fe Street/135th Street to southbound I-35 entrance ramp throughout the project duration. Ramp closures and lane reductions are tentatively scheduled to begin sometime around Monday, March 30, weather permitting. Phase One. All I-35 traffic will be carried on the existing northbound lanes separated by concrete barrier while the southbound lanes are reconstructed. During this phase, the southbound I-35 to Old U.S. 56 exit ramp will be closed. Southbound I-35 to Old U.S. 56 ramp traffic will detour via the U.S. 169/K-7 exit then north on K-7 to Old U.S. 56. Approximate timeframe for completion work on this phase: April-July 2015, weather permitting. Phase Two. All I-35 traffic will be carried on the newly completed southbound lanes separated by concrete barrier while the northbound lanes are reconstructed. During this phase, the Old U.S. 56 to northbound I-35 entrance ramp and the northbound I-35 to Santa Fe Street/135th Street exit ramp will be closed. Approximate timeframe for completion work on this phase: August-December 2015, weather permitting. Santa Fe Street/135th Street to southbound I-35 ramp traffic will detour via Mur-Len Road south to 151st Street west to I-35 or via Ridgeview Road north to 119th Street east to I-35.  Project work is scheduled to be completed in late December 2015. (NEW 3-18-15)

I-435 Westbound over Indian Creek Bridge Repair Project
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in early September 2015

EXPECT MAJOR DELAYS! WEEKEND DAY LANE & RAMP CLOSURES: Beginning on Saturday evening, June 20, westbound I-435 over the Indian Creek Bridge from the exit ramp to State Line Road to just past Indian Creek Bridge will be reduced to THREE OPEN LANES throughout the project duration for phase one construction work. During phase one construction, westbound I-435 traffic will be shifted to the right lanes over the bridge. Then part way through the project, westbound I-435 traffic will be shifted to the left three lanes for phase two work. State Line Road ramp traffic will follow a marked detour west on 103rd Street and College Boulevard to Roe Avenue to access westbound I-435. Project work is scheduled to be completed in early September 2015. (REV. 6-19-15)

I-435 (Southbound) at 87th Street Interchange Ramp Improvement Project

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 RAMP LANE CLOSURE: Southbound I-435 to 87th Street Parkway exit ramp will be reduced to ONE OPEN LANE, 24/7 round the clock, for improvement work beginning on May 4 and reopening to all traffic in September 2015. The City of Lenexa is making improvements to increase capacity and traffic flow through the intersection. An additional lane will be added to the exit ramp, which will provide two left-turn lanes and an exclusive right-turn lane. The city will also replace the traffic signal at 87th and I-435. Project work is scheduled to be completed in September 2015. (NEW 5-4-15) 

U.S. 69 & 159th Street Interchange Project

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from 151st Street to 167th Street will be REDUCED TO ONE OPEN LANE each direction, 24/7 round the clock, for City of Overland Park 159th Street interchange project work beginning on Tuesday, June 23 through Monday, September 7, 2015. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Monday, September 7. (NEW 6-24-15)   

WEEKDAY LANE/SHOULDER CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from 151st Street to 169th Street may have periodic lane and shoulder closures for ramp construction work beginning in September 2014 through late October 2015. KDOT partnered on a city-led project with the City of Overland Park for the U.S. 69 & 159th Street interchange expansion project. This expansion project includes the addition of interchange ramps to the existing intersection at U.S. 69 and 159th Street in Overland Park (Johnson County). The project work zone on northbound and southbound U.S. 69 will extend from 151st Street south to 169th Street throughout the duration of the project. Construction work, including periodic lane and shoulder closures, will primarily occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday.  Missouri Route: I-29  > > KCI Airport Travel Impacts

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE & RAMP CLOSURES: Motorists should prepare for delays as MoDOT crews work to rehabilitate 12 bridges along the I-29 corridor between I-435 and I-635 in Platte County, MO beginning on Tuesday, April 21 and continuing for six months. Work will cause lane reductions, narrow lanes, and ramp closures. Motorists should use alternate routes such as I-435 and U.S. 169. The following impacts will be underway: 

  • Two lanes of I-29 will be maintained in each direction between 112th Street and Route 45 (64th Street).
  • I-29 will be reduced to one lane at Route D (Cookingham Drive) for each direction for 80 calendar days.
  • The ramp from eastbound Route 152 to southbound I-29 will be closed for the duration of the project.
  • I-29 lanes will be narrowed at the bridge locations.

Temporary lane closures may be encountered on Route D (Cookingham Drive), 112th Street, Tiffany Springs Parkway, Barry Road, 72nd Street, and Route 45 (64th Street) during off peak hours. Project work is scheduled to be completed in Fall 2015. (REV. 4-20-15)

EXPECT DELAYS! 24/7 LANE & RAMP CLOSURES: The following ramp closures will begin: northbound and southbound I-635 to eastbound I-70 and eastbound I-70 to Park Drive/Kaw Drive, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26 for bridge deck replacement and repair work. Marked detours will be provided. At 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, eastbound and westbound I-70 from the Quarry Road Bridge(west of I-635) to just east of Kaw Drive will be reduced to two 11-foot lanes with no shoulders, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration The northbound and southbound I-635 to eastbound I-70 ramp closures will be in place, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. 24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Northbound I-435 over the Missouri River Bridge (including .05-miles on either side of the bridge) will be reduced to two open lanes for bridge repair work, 24/7 round the clock, beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, April 30, throughout the project duration. The overall project work is scheduled to be completed in December 2015. (NEW 4-28-15)

24/7 LANE CLOSURE: Southbound I-435 over the Missouri River Bridge(including .05-miles on either side of the bridge) will be reduced to TWO OPEN LANES at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1 and then reduced to ONE OPEN LANE at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 1, as crews install traffic control, including placement of concrete barrier on the bridge for the bridge repair work. Southbound I-435 over the Missouri River Bridge will reopen to TWO LANES at 5:00 p.m. the same day and will remain in this traffic configuration, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration.  Traffic will be detoured through the project work zone via concrete barrier, signage and cones. There will be a posted speed limit of 60 mph through the work zone throughout the duration of the project. Drivers should expect delays during peak commute times and may wish to use alternate routes if possible. The scheduled completion date for the overall project is early December 2015. (NEW 5-28-15)

Southbound I-435 over the Waldron (River) Road Bridge 

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Southbound I-435 before and over the Waldron (River) Road bridge (in Missouri) will remain reduced to ONE OPEN LANE (far left lane will remain closed) beginning on Thursday, June 11 due to damaged shoulder pavement through the duration of the I-435 Missouri River bridge project in early December 2015. This bridge is located just north of the Missouri River Bridge and crosses over Waldron (River) Road and railroad tracks.The scheduled completion date for the overall project is early December 2015. (NEW 6-12-15)

24/7 LANE CLOSURES: Northbound and southbound U.S. 69 from I-635 (in Missouri) to Kindleberger Road in Kansas will be reduced to one lane in each direction, 24/7, beginning on Friday, October 24 for bridge replacement work. Both northbound and southbound U.S. 69 traffic will travel on the existing northbound U.S. 69 bridge (Platte Purchase Bridge). A crossover will be used to shift southbound U.S. 69 traffic to the existing Platte Purchase Bridge. The traffic switch is scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2014 and traffic will remain in this configuration until Thursday, December 1, 2016.
