Adopt-A-Highway Groups Clean Up Kansas

Continuing efforts by the approximately 2,000 Adopt-A-Highway groups in Kansas help to keep state highways free of litter and debris. The program is in its ninth year in Kansas and is going strong because of local support in communities across the state.

Group members participating in the program show their dedication by cleaning assigned sections of roadways three times a year. This in turn helps the environment, improves safety and keeps the roadway looking great for the citizens of Kansas as well as people visiting the state.

Adopt-A-Highway groups are gearing up for the annual Clean Up Kansas Campaign which will take place during the month of April. The event is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

All Adopt-A-Highway groups are encouraged but not required to participate in the statewide event. Motorists are asked to use extra caution as people with bright orange vests will be working next to the highways.

New groups are always welcome to join the program. Any non-profit group that does not discriminate upon the basis of race, religion or sex can adopt a section of roadway. Youth groups with members at least 11 years old are also eligible. For more information, contact the KDOT office in your area.
