N.W. 46th Street/U.S. 75 Intersection Scheduled to Open to Traffic
Weather permitting, motorists in north Topeka will have a treat just in time
for Halloween. The closure of N.W. 46th Street will soon be over as the U.S.
75/46th Street intersection is scheduled to open to traffic after the evening
rush hour late on Wednesday, October 30.
N.W. 46th Street traffic will have full access to U.S. 75 via the roundabout
that was constructed as part of the project. U.S. 75 traffic will continue to
be reduced to one lane and will be routed onto the new ramps and roundabout
while construction of the new U.S. 75 bridge begins. The entire project should
be completed in fall 2003.
The closure of N.W. 46th Street was necessary to construct a roundabout at the
current U.S. 75/46th St. intersection and also new ramps to and from U.S. 75
at 46th St. Once finished, the project will replace the existing signalized
intersection with an interchange that will allow free flow of through traffic
on both U.S. 75 and N.W. 46th Street as well as free flowing movements from
one road to the other.
The speed limit on U.S. 75 in the construction area will continue to be reduced.
Motorists should be aware that delays on U.S. 75 are possible, especially during
rush hours, and are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible.
KDOT understands that this reconstruction project is an inconvenience and appreciates
the patience of all motorists, home owners and business owners.
