KDOT Making Changes To US 77/US 24 Intersection
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) has completed a
traffic study of the intersection of US 77 and US 24 in Riley
County and is making some changes to the intersection based on
the results of this study.
KDOT will install crossroad-warning signs with yellow flashing
beacons, both east and west of the intersection. The signs will
be installed within the next couple of weeks. The beacons will be
added at a later date because installation requires obtaining
special equipment and hiring an electrician.
Existing signs at the intersection warn northbound and
southbound traffic of the intersection and include both
"Stop Ahead" signs and large (48-inch) stop signs. The
new crossroad signs and flashing beacons will now warn eastbound
and westbound traffic about the intersection and should encourage
and increase driver attention.
KDOT will continue to monitor the intersection to determine
whether these steps are effective in making drivers more aware of
the importance of proceeding with caution at this
intersection.
